Mrs. Money created a K-5 School-wide Project inspired by Artist Thank you X (Ryan Wilson). Students at each grade levels were assigned a color and then asked to create their own unique designs that resulted in a spectacular paper masterpiece.

MESSAGE FROM DR. COAKLEY
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
In our classrooms, literacy is more than just reading and writing—it’s about sparking curiosity, nurturing critical thinking, and connecting as a community of learners. From kindergarten through grade 5, our English Language Arts & Literacy program invites students to explore language, stories, and ideas in ways that inspire a lifelong love of learning.
Our literacy block (K–5) weaves together Foundational Skills, Complex Text, Writing, and Oral Language to build skills to support students as they become strong, fluent readers and writers.
Foundational Skills: Students build phonological awareness, decoding, phonics, and spelling skills with research-based resources such as Heggerty, Lively Letters, Project Read, and Phoneme-Grapheme Mapping (grades 4–5).
Complex Text, Writing, & Oral Language: Using Wit & Wisdom, students study rich literature, nonfiction, art, historical speeches, and multimedia sources. Lessons emphasize knowledge-building, deep reading, and academic discourse through integrated reading, speaking, listening, and writing.
We encourage families to explore these free tools:
The Core ELA and the Wit & Wisdom curriculum provide our students with a coherent, rigorous, and engaging foundation in math and literacy. These programs are designed to support all learners, foster a love of learning, and prepare students for success in middle school and beyond.
Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend and have an AWESOME week ahead!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Dr. Mary Coakley, Principal

COMMUNITY INFORMATION AND EVENTS
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 28, 6-7 PM. It’s the much anticipated Words of Wellness Book Club! The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. If you have read the book, currently reading it, or haven’t read it but want to be part of the discussion--we hope you join us at the NB Library!
The book argues that the rise in youth mental illness, such as anxiety and depression, since the 2010s is caused by a fundamental shift from a "play-based childhood" to a "phone-based childhood" dominated by smartphones and social media. The book explains that this "great rewiring" of childhood, combined with overprotective parenting, has led to social deprivation, sleep problems, attention fragmentation, and increased social comparison. Haidt offers solutions, advocating for delaying smartphone access, fostering real-world play, and implementing rules to help children develop resilience and emotional stability.
Although not required, for planning purposes we suggest that you register at https://bit.ly/WordsOfWellnessOctober. Book Club will be held at Northborough Library in the large meeting room. Copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk.
